The Lakers win over the Pheonix Suns last night improved their record to 9-1. If you’re not a Lakers fan already it might be time to jump aboard the bandwagon. The “Bench Mob”, as the press likes to call them, is doing absolutely amazing, in fact so amazing some nights I feel like we could leave them out there the whole game and come away with the “W”. Am I crazy, or do you think the Lakers Bench could beat the Clippers starting team this year? I do.
Last night I was most impressed by how well the Lakers controlled the ball giving up only seven turnovers for the night compared to the Suns fifteen. It was really nice to see everyone cutting to the basket and getting the easy points in the paint, at times they were so quick it almost felt like the Suns were standing still. One of the big highlights last night was watching Ariza go for a steal, miss, then somehow recover to block the pull up jumper by Grant Hill with his left hand. His quickness and stamina is absolutely amazing as he is giving 100% each and every minute he plays. I have to give a mention to Walton, from what I hear he isn’t getting down about the lack of playing time, instead he has been putting extra time in after practice to work on his shot. Last night the extra practice seemed to payoff as he drained a three from the corner.
Tonight the Lakers will try and extend their record to 10-1 against the Denver Nuggets at home. Last time they faced them was November 1st, and they got the “W” 104-97. Since then the Nuggets have lost Allen Iverson to the Pistons and picked up Chauncey Billups in return. If the Lakers can control the ball as well as they did against the Suns this should be an easy win for them. The Nuggets just don’t have the depth in their bench this season to keep this game close the full forty eight.
