The Lakers cruised past the Nets last night winning easily 120 to 93 and extended their record to 12-1. I predicted that would be an easy game, but honestly I was very impressed with the game play of the Nets in the first half keeping the score close. I was particularly impressed with Devin Harris the point guard for the Nets. Before the game I felt like the biggest threat for us on the court would be Vince Carter, however I quickly changed that opinion to Harris and Lopez. Lopez is their starting rookie from Stanford. These two literally made Carter look like an old man out there. I know there are plenty of Vince Carter fans our there who will be pissed off at that statement, but let’s be real those kids are moving way faster on the court.
Sorry for the divergence, back to the Lakers. Great game play last night by Bynum, Gasol and Farmar, they definitely did some nice work keeping that first half close. Kobe on the other hand not so much, his shooting from the perimiter was atrocious, especially in the first half. This season Kobe has been up and down on the offesive end, thankfully we’re getting away with it. What’s making this Laker team so good this year is that the offensive production is spread throughout the whole team and is not just one guy carrying the team night after night like it was in the past. Could this Lakers team be as good as the ‘95-96 Bulls? Sacramento Kings assistant coach Randy Brown seems to think so and he should know since he was on the Bulls during that run. In an article earlier this week Brown went as far as to say “they are a little more talented than we were when I played for the Bulls” in reference to the Lakers. I wouldn’t go on record predicting a 70 win season yet… but if you look at the 95-96 Bulls they started out 10-1 and then jumped up to 23-2, look familiar?
The Lakers have Thanksgiving off this year and will resume action on Friday against the Dallas Mavericks. Hopefully the team can avoid the dangers of Thanksgiving and escape without injuries. Good old Phil has told them to avoid the wishbones and to stay out of the kitchen this year. If they obey we might be OK, but the L-Tryptophan from the Turkey may have them playing a little slower, let’s hope the team has some Red Bull on stand by. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
