With two straight wins to start the new year and a six game winning streak the Lakers have finally reached the top of the league, beating out both the Celtics and the Cavaliers for the top spot. I wouldn’t go as far as to say the Celtics have completely fallen from grace, but that loss on Christmas against the Lakers was bigger than any Celtics fans care to admit. On the flip side, the win for Lakers was huge. That win was the confidence boost the team needed.
Since the big Christmas game against the Lakers the Celtics are 2-3, with losses against the Warriors, Trail Blazers and Knicks. As much as I wanted to gloat over the win on this blog I refrained, because after all it’s just a regular season win and scoreboard still goes to the Celtics for handing it to us in last year’s playoffs. One thing I did enjoy though was reading the trash talk between Celtics fans and Lakers fans on a popular Celtics blog called RedsArmy.com. You might be wondering why I’m reading a Celtics blog. They linked to a story I wrote prior to the big game and so I checked them out. Here are some great comments from their readers in response to the loss:
“The Celtics definitely lost this game. But I mean, the officiating was absolutely abysmal. I’m not gonna’ blame anything on that, but I really just wanted to point it out.”
“Gasoal is a piece of shit, Garnett should of punched him in his fucken face. Lamar hits two lucky 3′2, oh well lets start another 19 in a row. I HATE the fucken FAKERS….I wounder how much the lakers paid the fans to cheer….lol”
“Kobe’s no Jordan. Lakers will not make it back to Finals sorry so it really does not matter.”
Of course it wouldn’t have been as fun without some Lakers fans chiming in:
“I like how you idiots are trying to make light of your lost. 19-game winning streak OVERRR!!!!!!!!!!!”
“HAHAHAHA WE ARE THE TRUE CHAMPS BITCH!!!!!!!!”
“HAHHAHAHAA How did that “16 pt” win feel? HOW DOES UR STREAK FEEL? MERRY CHRISTMAS BTCHEZZZ”
Good stuff, I can’t wait for the rematch against them in February. On a side note, did you notice that Ariza got the start last night? Good call, Phil.
